We are passionate about Art History at every age level! By incorporating and artist or art movement from all over the world into every art project, children are inspired and experience deeper learning and understanding of the world of Art.
Movement, rhymes, music, stories, and games help the youngest artists enjoy a fully structured lesson.
Wed @ 9:30 & 10:45, Thurs @ 9:30 & 10:45 & 1:00, & Sat. @ 9:30 & 10:45 (Structured class time is approximately 45-50 minutes, and parents and children often stay to socialize and play afterwards!)
8 weeks $120.00 + $10 materials fee
Our structured activities are a great way for little ones to become comfortable with a semi-structured activity. In an active, low pressure environment, we move, read, and explore. Little siblings are welcome; we love to see baby brothers and sisters! No charge for siblings under age 2.
Leanora Carrington, like many of the female surrealist painters, emphasized the creative power of women. What better way to celebrate the mothers right before Mother’s Day, but to create a powerful homage to her female powers!
From the Ancient Greeks to the Etruscans, the beautiful murals of animals and ocean creatures will inspire our clay tiles. Children will press decorative, colorful pieces into their mosaics for a tactile experience.
From Robert Indiana to Ed Ruscha, many artists use letters and words in their art, and as their art. The children will use the letters of their name today to create a banner that can be a learning tool for spelling their names!
Summer is almost here… Let’s celebrate our last class together (until fall!) with a special underwater painting. We will make bubble paintings, then add graceful JELLYFISH gliding across the paper.
Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons are full of Art History and hands-on Art projects. Your students will learn about a specific artist or art movement, and then create something inspired by the art. Expect 2 and 3-dimensional mediums, clay, paint, and collage. Exploring many skills; problem solving and enjoying the solutions of the fellow students around us. We meet for 90 minutes per week: Tuesdays or Wednesday, 1:00-2:30.
For those students who want more, we offer the Homeschool Art Club. This program includes an additional hour, and includes more "camp-like" activities. More socially interactive games, more outdoor time, and more art!

Let’s look at the famous Ukrainian folk artist, Maria Prymachenko. Many of her original works have been recently destroyed. Her brightly colored fantasy animals are a little scary, and very imaginative. Students will draw from fantasy to create their own surreal animal using the style of folk art to fill their space.
Paul Gauguin’s “Three Dogs” shows three adorable gray puppies sit on a lightly printed textile. What other famous artworks feature printed fabric? From Henri Matisse to Kehinde Wiley: look at the patterns and prints. Let’s make a printed cloth! This is a two week project. The first week we will make a large stamp from craft foam.
This week we will roll fabric paint onto our foam stamp design, then print onto cotton fabric. Repeat the design on the fabric. You can print just a border, or an all-over pattern.
Name Art: Text has been used in art through the years: from Robert Indiana to Ed Ruscha. Let’s use the letters of our names to create a drawing. We will fill those creative letters with colors and images that reflect us!
We will work hard to finish up our name art! Adding color, shading, and bold outlines with colored pencil and ink to create a keepsake piece of art.
As we say goodbye for the summer, we will create a fun underwater painting. Using bubbles, soap, and paint, we will create a beautifully textured backdrop for our sea creatures and sea shells.
Let’s dust off our drawing skills with some exercises inspired by the Cubists. Looking at objects from different angles changing our perspectives, just like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque! We will experiment with different mediums while creating studies, or drawing from life.
Each of our 6 drawings from the previous week will come together to form a 3-d Cube. We will finish developing these drawings, then cut and glue the cubes together.
Water, Ocean, Waves: let’s study the famous art of Katsushika Hokusai. Using lines and shapes inspired by nature, let’s decorate rice paper Japanese Shoji Screens.
The modern phenomenon of Guerrilla Art has its origins in the UK, but now we see artists “bombing” their messages all over the world. Street art, yarn bombs, and guerrilla gardening are just a few examples. Students will create a “Seed Bomb” from clay, soil, and wildflower seeds. A wonderful gift to leave behind: bombs away!
Botanical shapes, organic lines, and the growth of new life: Many artists are inspired by the living plants and flowers around us in spring. Let’s loosen up those drawing arms and create the underdrawing for a watercolor floral. Black glue will define the lines for next week’s addition of color.
This week we will complete the watercolor floral masterpiece by adding color to each of the shapes defined by the three-dimensional black glue. Our lesson will include an emphasis on changing value to create interest and depth.
